MBBS in Kyrgyzstan: The Eligibility Gate That Closes Before You Leave

The failure mode with MBBS in Kyrgyzstan is not a fake university or a scam admission letter — the institutions on this page are genuinely recognised. The failure mode is quieter and worse: a student completes five years and a degree, comes home, and discovers they were never eligible to sit Pakistan's licensing exam in the first place, because of an FSc percentage or an MDCAT score fixed years before they ever boarded a flight.

That gate is on the Pakistan side. It has nothing to do with which Kyrgyz university you pick. This guide covers it first, because everything else — cost, the university itself, the visa — only matters once you know you actually clear it.

PMDC's foreign-study eligibility criteria

PMDC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council) sets conditions a Pakistani student must meet beforea foreign medical degree can lead to practice in Pakistan. These come from PMDC's own published policy for students seeking admission abroad, not from a consultant's marketing page. In substance, the conditions are:

  • FSc (Pre-Medical) or equivalent — minimum 60% if completed in Pakistan. (SAT-II ≥550 in each subject, or a foreign MCAT/UCAT with 50% in Biology, Chemistry, and either Maths or Physics, are the stated alternatives.)
  • MDCAT — minimum 50%, taken in Pakistan, valid for 3 years. This applies regardless of whether the Kyrgyz university itself requires an entrance test.
  • The institution must appear on PMDC's own recognised list (the Green List).
  • The qualification must be allopathic medicine from an institution recognised by its home country's own regulator, which must itself be accredited by WFME or the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).
  • A PM&DC Student Registration Certificate must be obtained before starting studies — not after.
  • The programme must comprise at least 6,200 teaching hours, with minimum 80% attendance, over 5 years.
  • If the medium of instruction is not English, a minimum 5 months of local-language study is required first.
  • The student must pass PMDC's National Registration Examination (NRE) after the degree for full registration.
  • A multiple-entry visa covering the full study duration must be in place before proceeding.

Every one of these is a Pakistan-side requirement, not a Kyrgyzstan-side one. A university admitting you without an MDCAT score does not waive PMDC's 50% MDCAT threshold for recognition — it just means you can enrol while being permanently ineligible to register in Pakistan. Both things can be true from the same consultant page. Read the fine print.

Kyrgyzstan on the PMDC Green List

12 Kyrgyz institutionscurrently appear on PMDC's recognised foreign institutions list. This is a genuine, checkable number — not a marketing claim — and it means Kyrgyzstan has a real base of PMDC-recognised options.

One naming ambiguity to resolve before you apply

Two separate entries on the list both reference “International University of Kyrgyzstan” under different faculty names — International Higher School of Medicine and International School of Medicine. It is not clear from the list alone whether these are the same programme listed twice or two genuinely distinct faculties. Confirm directly with PMDC or the institution which faculty name your specific admission offer maps to before you rely on it.

Always check the exact legal name of the institution you are being offered against the current list yourself, at pmdc.pk — not against a consultant's copied summary of it. The list is not static.

The 5-year MD: at the floor, not below it

Kyrgyz MD (General Medicine) programmes are commonly marketed as “faster” than a 6-year programme elsewhere — presented as a straightforward advantage. It is worth being precise about what that actually means against PMDC's own criteria.

A 5-year programme sits exactly at PMDC's duration floor, not below it — so “5 years” is not automatically disqualifying on duration alone. But duration is only one of two conditions. The other is the 6,200-hour, 80%-attendance threshold, and that is where a 5-year programme has no slack: there is less calendar time to accumulate the same number of teaching hours than a 6-year programme has.

The honest framing isn't “5 years is too short.” It's “5 years leaves no room for error — verify the actual teaching-hours total and attendance policy for your specific institution before assuming compliance.” This is institution-specific and needs to be checked against the named Kyrgyz university's own published curriculum, not assumed from the programme length alone.

Internship abroad vs. house job in Pakistan — these are not the same thing

Consultant marketing sometimes blurs two genuinely separate requirements together. They need to be kept apart:

1. The internship year that's part of the degree itself

This is completed abroad, at the enrolling university's affiliated teaching hospital, as part of the 6,200-hour / 5-year requirement above. It is a graduation requirement, not a Pakistan registration requirement.

2. The mandatory house job in Pakistan

Full PMDC registration requires a house job completed in Pakistan, at a PMDC-approved hospital — regardless of where the degree-internship happened. The abroad internship does not substitute for it. Provisional registration is required before the house job: graduates of Green-List-recognised institutions get provisional registration directly, while graduates of non-recognised institutions must first pass the NRE to obtain it.

The right question to ask before you commit: “After my Kyrgyz internship, do I still need a Pakistan house job before I can practise?” The answer is always yes. If a consultant has not explained this distinction clearly, they have not given you the full picture.

Cost — get it in writing

We did not retrieve a verified, primary-sourced tuition figure for Kyrgyz medical universities this session — consultant sites quote a range, but none of it comes from a university's own published fee page. Do not budget off a verbal number or a WhatsApp quote. Request the tuition figure in writing, directly from the university's admissions office, specifying exactly which year of study it covers and whether hostel, food, and internship-year fees are included.

What we could not verify

No Pakistan-specific Kyrgyzstan student-visa approval or refusal rate is publicly published, and this appears to be the case for most destinations, not a Kyrgyzstan-specific gap. Treat any consultant citing a specific success-rate figure with scepticism unless they can show you the source.

Questions to ask before you commit

  1. 1

What was my actual MDCAT score, and does it clear PMDC's 50% minimum? MDCAT admission-optional at the university doesn't change this — it's a Pakistan-side requirement, not a university one.

  2. 2

Is this specific institution on the current PMDC Green List, under Kyrgyzstan — checked directly against the list, not a screenshot or a consultant's summary?

  3. 3

Can the university show me, in writing, the total teaching hours and attendance requirement for the programme — not just its duration in years?

  4. 4

Is the medium of instruction English throughout, or will I need the 5-month language-study period PMDC requires when it isn't?

  5. 5

After my internship abroad, do I still need to complete a house job in Pakistan before I can practise? (Yes, always — but make sure your consultant has actually told you this.)

  6. 6

If I'm not eligible for PMDC's National Registration Examination, what exactly is this degree for?

This guide was researched using the official PMDC Green List (pmdc.pk/Documents/Others/Listz.pdf) and PMDC's published policy for Pakistani students seeking admission abroad (dated 29 July 2024, effective Session 2024–2025, restated in a 23 January 2025 alert). Institution counts and eligibility criteria are primary-sourced; tuition figures and part-time work conditions were not independently verified this session and should be confirmed directly with the institution before you commit.
