Pakistani nationals are eligible. Key requirements:

  • Undergraduate/MBBS: Under 25 years old, 75%+ in FSc Pre-Medical or equivalent
  • Master's: Under 35 years old, bachelor's degree with strong academic record
  • PhD: Under 40 years old, master's degree, sometimes requires a professor acceptance letter
  • Not currently holding another Chinese government scholarship
  • Good health — a medical examination from an approved facility is required

There is no hard IELTS requirement for most English-medium programmes — contact the university directly to confirm their English proficiency requirement.

How to apply

  1. 1

    Check eligibility

Pakistani national, under 25 for undergraduate/MBBS (under 35 for master's, under 40 for PhD). Minimum 75% average in FSc for MBBS and most programmes. Currently not holding another Chinese government scholarship.

  2. 2

Choose Type A or Type B

Type A: Apply via the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad — more competitive, full benefits. Type B: Apply directly to a university that has its own CSC quota — slightly less competitive, benefits vary. Most Pakistani applicants go Type A (Embassy route).

  3. 3

    Prepare your documents

Passport copy, FSc/A-Level transcripts and certificates, personal statement (study plan), two recommendation letters from professors or teachers, medical examination form (from approved facility), HSK certificate (if applicable — Chinese language), copies of previous degrees.

  4. 4

    Apply through the CSC portal

Applications open January–March each year via the CSC online system (csc.edu.cn). Select up to 3 universities and programmes in order of preference. Submit the online application and download the completed form.

  5. 5

    Submit to the Embassy

Print the completed application form and submit along with all supporting documents to the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad (Education Section). Check the current year's deadline — it is typically late March to mid-April.

  6. 6

    Wait for results

Results are notified June–July. If successful, you receive an Admission Notice and the CSC scholarship approval letter. Use these to apply for the Chinese student visa (X1 visa).

After acceptance

You receive an Admission Notice from your university and a CSC scholarship approval letter. Use these to apply for an X1 student visa at the Chinese Embassy. Most universities have an arrival date in September; some also have a February intake.

Upon arrival, complete university registration, receive your residence permit, and set up your bank account for monthly stipend payments. The stipend is paid monthly — typically in the first week of each month.

MBBS applicants: CSC approval does not mean PMC recognition. Verify your university on the PMC list before accepting.

Common mistakes Pakistani applicants make

  • !

Applying through an agent and paying a fee — agents cannot improve your CSC application; the process is fully transparent and you apply directly. Any agent claiming to 'guarantee' a CSC scholarship is misleading you.

  • !

Missing the IELTS — most Chinese universities accept an English proficiency letter from your school for English-medium programmes. Confirm with the specific university before spending on IELTS.

  • !

Choosing a university that is not PMC-recognised (for MBBS applicants) — CSC approval does not mean PMC recognition. Verify separately.

  • !

Submitting weak recommendation letters — generic letters from teachers who do not know you well are a known weakness in Pakistani applications. Letters should be specific about your ability and potential.

  • !

Not preparing a real personal statement — the 'study plan' is not a formality. A specific, research-informed plan showing you understand the programme and your goals significantly strengthens the application.

You do not need an agent to apply for CSC

The CSC application process is fully public, free, and handled directly through the Embassy or the CSC online portal. Agents in Pakistan who charge fees for "CSC application assistance" or claim special access to scholarship quotas are taking money for something you can do yourself. They cannot improve your chances — the selection is based entirely on your academic record and application quality.
